Talked to security yesterday. They said we aren't allowed to form a line until 10pm. Though they said 4:00 for the iPhone launch and they started walking us in at 1:00.

Ummm...entertain me. Why do you think they're a rip off? (Keep in mind that "big" is a relative term. What do you consider a "big screen" TV? Thirty-two inches and up?)
-Squire
Spending above £1000 on a tv which might be 'HD ready', and then finding out that the large majority of stuff on tv looks crap on it, because the content isn't in HD, to my mind makes it a rip off. I'm not sure how entertaining that answer is. 36 inch and above on a tv is is what I call a big screen.
My 'normal' bog standard, run of the mill, crt (remember those) tv still makes tv look good, dvd's look better, and cost less than an arm or a leg on the black market organ exchange.

Did you verify by the times posted that more should have been bold? Is it possible that only 7 threads in that forum were updated since your last visit?
Yeah, its been doing it for some time. It's really not a big deal, its more that I just want to know why it is doing it.
I havent been paying attention to the "You last visited:" thing, I'll have to watch that and see what it is saying.

What I like about Longhorn are the backgrounds. Deep blue with curving streaks of lighter blue. So original! :)

Basically they have copied Mac OS as usual, and as usual, have lost any elegance and subtlety to the the design in the process. Just like XP copies the colored-gel look of OS X, but takes it over the top into a multi-colored toy look with a zillion competing functional areas.
Luckily I can choose the Win95 look still.

The thing here is CHOICE!

There are a bazillion choices now!
Just JB the darn thing... takes 3 minutes!

I can't believe I actually went through the instructions on that video... It's taken about 5 minutes and is currently processing page 254... And similar to tkermit, it came to around 410MB.

it will work just fine on bootcamp, as stated, it will run just like a similar spec windows machine. My recommendation though, from my experience, is to also run a fan control program when rendering as the mbp will get quite hot and it runs faster if you push the fans as the windows controller tends to be a little slower on the fans. For example, using max 2012 on my 2009 mbp it will hit 85-89C on a render while running fans around 5k... actually had it shut down on a render in the middle of the night, sucked... but using lubbos fan control (mbp specific fan control gui) I can push the fans to 6k and keep the temps just below 80C... same applies to revit, maya, c4d, etc rendering. hope that helps:D

Yes, I reset the PMU, I think.
I couldn't find a physical reset button on this model, so I used the four-key combo for about 7 seconds, then let go and powered up the computer.
No difference.
Computer works on AC.
Profiler reports correct statistics for battery.
Battery lights with 4 lights and doesn't look abnormal (no gunk on the contacts, it's in clean condition).
The ring on the AC cord does not light up and the battery does not charge.

Should be? As in Apple is going to put it on there, or said they were going to, but haven't yet. OR Should be, as in YOU think that is what Apple should do?
The Stig
i think it should be. they're always touting podcasting. why not post their keynote as a podcast? it would be much better than having to sit through a streaming quicktime video.

Hells to the yeah. Only in AAPL since around 330, from around January, but a profit of well over the price of a fully loaded Mac Book Pro makes me one happy person :D :D Only wish I could have gotten in sooner. I know people who are practically wiping their bums with 100 dollar bills thanks to apple stock.
Now for the earnings party :apple: Free apple martinis on me:cool:

I watched the video and don't think that's what Michael Moore said.
He's not saying that the money in Bill Gate's bank account is a national resource, he's saying the wealth generated by our economy is a national resource and that there have been intentional political and business decisions that have concentrated greater amounts of our economic wealth into the hands of the rich.
Don't you think that's true, 5P?
I'd have to disagree with you there. There were several key-words in that interview which I think clearly proves his position is that he (and the rest of us) have a claim on the wealth earned by someone else. I think he would carry that opinion regardless of WHERE the person made the money. If it was a billionaire who made all their money in France (not our economy), and then moved to America for retirement, I think his position on his claim to that wealth would be the same...
No one needs that much money. Assuming his wealth is around 40 billion, that's more than anyone could ever spend or needs. I say tax it all, and leave him with a few hundred million. That's still an insane amount of money. That way, he'd be paying his fair share of taxes, and would still have more money than he needs.
I can't tell if you're joking or being serious. On the chance that you're being serious, please answer the following question... In 2009 the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gave $3.653 Billion to some of the most important charitable causes around the globe. They're known around the world as one of the most highly selective, efficient, and effective charitable organizations. Is it your position that our federal government would more efficiently/effectively utilize this money?
Thank you Fivepint, I needed a good laugh.
Why didn't you vote "yes?"

Ah, I see. Do you have an asking price, I notice you said make an offer, but what are you looking to get for it?
I don't really have an asking price, as I don't know what's a reasonable price. I know you have a 12" PowerBook. Trades? :D

I am surprised nobody mentioned this yet. Does anyone realize that (and a quote from Wikipedia)-
In Woz founded Wheels Of Zeus (note the acronym, "WoZ"), to create wireless GPS technology to "help everyday people find everyday things."
While Wheels of Zeus was closed in Wozniak immediately founded Acquicor Technology, a "shell" company for acquiring other technologies.
I think that the new iphone/ipod/other appliance may have a lot to do with integrating GPS, or perhaps a GPS chip in mobile computers to help us all find handy things around us, or as Woz said "to help everyday people find everyday things."
I think this is the genius of the Jobs-Woz partnership showing itself again.
After all, how much Segway polo can Woz be playing these days?

I was on the train to work that day when all a sudden, every cell phone in the train went off all at once. People were starting to talk about the WTC being hit with a plane, but nobody knew it was terrorism at that point. When I got to my stop (in the Financial District in Chicago's Loop), everyone was running up the stairs to get on the train. It was almost chaos. I went into my office and that's when I found out exactly what happened. The mayor then ordered everyone to evacuate downtown. I spent the rest of the day trying to contact friends in NYC who lived on Lower Manhattan. Little did I know I wouldn't be able to get in touch with them for over a week, due to the heavy phone traffic. It was a horrible, horrible day. Not knowing if my friends were OK was the worst though.

Never worked well for me either.

I think that local connection is what they used - cool stuff. Is that in MX 2004 or the newest version?
clayj - that works in the single flash object on your page - layers in the same main file. What local connection is doing is having two or more separate flash objects on a page among regular html text and images and communicating between them.

Save those SHSH Blobs fast. I saw that 4.3.2 came out and right when I got back from lunch, fired up my laptop and saved them for my iPad 2. Also saved again for my iPhone just for good measure.

People seem to keep forgetting:
E911 support on cellphones is handled via a built in GPS receiver. Usually users don't know its there, and cannot access it.
E911 on GSM phones is handled by triangulation at the towers. GPS is not a component common to most GSM phones and certainly not a part of the standard (E911 wouldn't work with older or imported phones if they relied upon GPS.)
I think GPS is, IIRC, built into IS-95 ("CDMA") in some form, as phones have to have some idea of where they are for the system to work (GSM is more "I can hear a tower, I'll talk to that. Ooops! It's complaining I'm too loud, I'll lower my power level", that kind of thing. Very laid back and easy going. Nice.)
This sounds like the iPhone.
E911 GPS: Check
GSM: Check
Music: Check
Camera: Check
Not huge news. The only thing it tells us is the limitation most providers put in place regarding what the GPS is available for is removed.
Well, not really. It looks more like a more general purpose mobile device than a phone. It might have phone functionality, but I doubt that'll be its primary purpose.
