Hi.
Can I "dual boot" and have bootcamp-Windows on one screen and OSX on another? Or when using Bootcamp do I HAVE to choose one or the other?
It would be awesome to have the power/stability/support of bootcamp and have OSX running at the same time.... and just use "spaces" to toggle around.
Also, is Windows 7 the preferred OS to use now? I have been using XP for a long time and am ready to upgrade, but have no idea what to get.

I don't know if you are aware of this.... Can't you wait until June/July for the release of Final Cut Pro X (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/13/final-cut-pro-x-demo-nowhere-near-final-version-more-on-final-cut-studio-apps-coming/)? looking at the video demo (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/13/video-of-final-cut-pro-x-introduction-now-available/), it seem's awsome...
Not sure what shortcomings will the X version will have compared to the current FCP Studio, since the price difference is huge.
cheers!

Yep. My 12" PB exhibits this problem from time to time. The fix is to insert a set of headphones into the mini jack and remove them. This seems to trigger the stuck/malfunctioning sensor and switch audio output back to speakers.
Hope this works for you too!

You can easily tell when whoever submits [E] to SpyMac you know either it's been given a Photoshop job, or someone has too much time on their hands, assuming the grease on their hands is time. :p
Yet some of us still wonder what's up with iPhone.org and/or MacMate. If anyone ever gets to talk with d'man (in some cases, again), ask him about this, and the forums. :p :D

Can another company even sell music at less than $0.99?
Even if they could... would you pay $.79 for something that might not work in the next release of iTunes software?

Just curious, I wouldn't think it would be but is the iPad 2 any cheaper at the University of Utah campus store?
No. The same price as anywhere else. They did however have every single model in stock, and no you don't have to be a student.

Ilife should be on the grey disc that came from apple as well as os x. Do a clean install from that then upgrade to tiger.

It looks like Apple may not be doing pre-orders or reservations this time which makes me think I'll have to go Thursday night. Anyone else planning on staying over Thursday night or going really early Friday morning?

The games cost the companies millions to develop on each platform, and it is their intellectual property in the first place. Adding DRM to someone else's music takes a push of a button.
Which costs tens millions to operate and to license. Keep in mind that it's not any given music service which elects to use DRM, it's the recording companies that insist upon it. The reason why Fairplay is relatively lenient compared to other schemes is that it is locked down to a narrow set of compatible devices. You can copy your music to any number of iPods, for example--which goes far beyond "fair use" under the law. Win some, lose some.
I don't get your logic there at all. As I've just said, DRMd media isn't the same as software. If I didn't want a dominant Sony Walkman 20 years ago, I bought a Panasonic and my tapes still played. If I decided my Philips DVD Player was rubbish, I could buy a JVC and the DVDs still played.
You bought into an available open standard. There were competing proprietary ones as well--just none as popular as CD or DVD. There is still an available open standard (albeit often at a higher price per track). The availability of more limited music doesn't limit you one bit. You chose the limited version over the unencumbered one because it was faster, easier, and/or more customizable.
As far as I'm concerned, anything I OWN, I should have fair use rights over, even if I wish to change the make of my player. Steve Jobs makes a big deal about us OWNING our music when we buy from iTunes. If I truly own it, I should have the right to use it how I wish. Which is it?
You do own the DRMed music file. You can use it without continued payment and without time limits. Ownership of the intellectual property of others has always been nuanced. There's ownership of content (lyrics, performance, etc. can all have different owners), of distribution (including licensing for public performance), of a license to the media (on a CD belonging to you or in a digital file under your control), and of course various forms of renting and leasing. When you buy music from iTunes (or any other pay-once service), you have indefinite (timewise) usage rights and control of that license. You do not, nor can Apple legally grant you, total control over the file.
If DRM is necessary, it should be interoperable between different manufacturers. The aim of it should be to prevent illegal copying, not allow vendor lock in.
There's nothing wrong with vendor lock-in so long as an easily attainable, universal solution also exists. Since you are not obligated to buy anything from iTMS if you own an iPod, there is no justifiable harm. What I would like to see is a service permitting you to assemble custom CDs from individual tracks (instead of being forced to buy entire albums) and lower prices from iTunes. Both of these require the recording industry to embrace the Internet, rather than fight it.

I was trying to keep mine distanced from the official versions - so comics sans and the 'IPod' are my own quirks.
right, but the lower case "i" followed by a capitalized word such as Mac or Pod is how apple spells these things. Saying you want to make a proper ad where you go against apples way of doing things is like it weren't even an apple product. IPod is no different in that regard than iPood, or Dell iPod etc...
you want to distance your self and be unique, fine, but unless you're making an advert for something other than an apple product, you actually kinda do have to spell it properly.

Hi, I have a big problem that started today, since the beginning of the App Store i've had an iTunes Store account without any credit card or billing information.
I've always been able to download free apps without any payment information and since I don't live in the US I don't have a credit card to put into my account, the only solution I seem to have is to buy an iTunes gift card in the US and then i'll be able to download apps, but it's not that easy for me to but gift cards from the US since I currently don't live there.
Does somebody have the same problem or know what should I do?
Thanks in advanced.
You don't have to be American to provide a form of payment. They accept Electron, Debit, Amex, etc. It does not have to be a credit card only.

Hey guys,
I have a powermac g4 digital audio I believe, 700 mhz processor. I also have 2 powermac g3's I believe the fastest that created. 400 mhz or something like that. I have another g4 with the 350 processor that I can test the power control which with but it would be a pain because my grandparents are using it so it would take a while to get it unhooked/dug out, they use it as a paper holder behind a desk cords and everything are ran through the desk.
Here's my 3 questions:
1. The Powermac g4 when you push the power button it lights up but when you release it goes out. The logicboard does not respond. Should I buy a new power control module or is there a way to use the one from the g3, it looked different at first glance.
2. To run a home server is it better to run a g4 with the faster processor or a g3 with more ram, the g3 has 4 slots the g4 only 3.
3. Best way to use as a media server I was thinking put everything into itunes and use the homesharing, is that available in tiger? Is that the best way to do it?
It will be used with apple tv, macbook, powerbook, ibook, imac g5, xbox 360?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

If you have an unformated hard drive in there then the Mini should automatically boot from the DVD, no key press required. The Mini should look for any available bootable OS's on startup and lacking it's default, choose one.
Are you getting a Kernel Panic screen on boot? A gray screen telling you to restart your computer by pressing the power button in multiple languages? If so then something is amiss, because unless something has changed in the last few years, without a bootable OS the mini should just flash a circle with a line through it (no idea what the symbol is called, but like a No Smoking sign without a cigarette in it).
Are you trying to start up from the Restore DVD that came with the Mini or a retail Snow Leopard DVD?
Thank you, Norouzi - your description fits what I see on my screen, ie. it must be the Kernel Panic screen, meaning that my new Mini didn't like the unformatted bigger and speedier HD that I put in there.
I was trying to start by installing the Snow Leopard with an authentic installation DVD.
I just borrowed an Apple USB keyboard from my banker over the week end :) - so I'll just give it try, hopefully at least I can eject the DVD with it.

I've never understood the argument against the Air because of it's lack of DVD drive. I have no idea when the last time was I used mine, and it takes up a massive amount of space and weight on my MacBook.
I'm sure some people have uses of a DVD drive and for them its understandable, but I feel most people, myself included fall into the "I can't remember the last time I've used my CD/DVD drive ..." category. Which is why I replaced mine entirely with a SSD drive, which I boot from. I would recommend it to anybody with the available funds.

Thanks. On the subject of editing. I know a track can be muted, but what about a region (section) without having to mute the whole track? Can a region be muted separately?

I would like the 3d fad to be just that....a fad. It gives me headaches, as does virtual reality. Spend the extra dough to make a better game, not 3d that does nothing for the product...like Avatar.
I hear a few games are actually more helpful with 3D from what I read GT 5 utilizes it like you can see a little better who's behind you etc and NBA 2k11 shows of pretty well especially during replays.
