Any application itself should run off the system drive. The application doesn't need a dedicated drive to run. I think what your friend means is that you keep all your projects and media used in that project on a dedicated drive. It's those files that will get accessed a lot and if you want smooth, consistent performance you put all of that on a dedicated drive.
That's what I thought at first, too. But, he keeps persisting that I install the software on a separate disk. I think that would be easy with a desktop like a Mac Pro where you have multiple hard drive bays.
I'm just trying to optimize my mac's performance without jeopardizing it's system drive, which is a WD scorpio black I put in it, and get the best out of it the computer, without ruining anything. (I'm overly anal, I know, it's a curse.)

Check that you're using your ISP's DNS servers. I've seen similar problems where users have changed to a different ISP's DNS for troubleshooting reasons and forgotten to change them back, causing geolocation to return a non-optimal server.

What kind of price range are you talking about here. I have a pretty freakin' loaded T61 14.1" for which I don't know the specs right off hand. I know it has dedicated nvidia graphics, 2GB Ram and 802.11N wireless plus a 7,200 RPM HDD (100GB I believe) and a Core 2 Duo processor. It is still in great shape and is still under warranty until I think Sept.

If you don't calibrate your battery, the battery monitor will be incorrect. The compter may think the battery is empty when it is not and force sleep. The computer may think it is full when it is not and not charge all the way. You don't have calibrate it right away. Do a full charge that night while you sleep. Then don't charge it again after you use all the battery. The discharge doesn't have to happen all at once, but the recharge does.

WHEN WHEN WHEN?! lol, that is the question. This device would be so cool, i'm in the market for a new cell phone and this would fit the bill very nicely...

why do u hate the magic mouse so much, i love mine, only thing i dont like about it is the battery life, that sucks
The lack of a physical scroll wheel with detents will always deter gamers, especially those that need precision scrolling (i.e. switching between weapons).
As for battery life, use Sanyo Eneloops. I get about 3 to 4 months a charge out of those, and that's at 60 hours a week of use.

Hi everyone
I have recently tried to install windows XP on my mac. What i think happened, was that i THOUGHT i was using bootcamp, but in fact it tried to install XP as the main operation system. In any case, i was stuck in the XP setup blue screen, without being able to complete the installation, get back to OS or even get the XP installer disc out. After spamming the Disc removal key, i finally got the disc out, but when i restarted the mac, a flashing folder showed up. I found out this was because the computer could not find a operating system to boot by. I plugged in the installation disc and tried to repair the disc but it could not. I finally gave up and tried to reinstall the whole thing, but it could not find the harddisc.
What i am asuming happened is: I must have said yes, when the XP setup asked me if i wanted to format the disc. This (ofcause) ment i could no longer run OS on the disc. I realise all my school work, notes and files are gone, what i want now is just my computer back with OS. How do i format the disc back so that i can reinstall OS on it? Please help, and yes i know it was very stupid to format the disc in the first place.

How carriers can get away with what amounts to restraint of trade is beyond me.
I totally agree! I had to jumped through hoops to have my out of contract 3GS unlocked in order to use it when I was oversea. So I can use the local SIM and more importantly my OWN phone with all my stuff on it!
And because of that I am now no longer able to upgrade my phone's software anymore from Apple (I had to use iPad baseband...). I tried to upgrade and it bricked my phone. Went to Apple and they want $200 for a 3GS replacement. And he even added "Well, I don't want to get you banned from having an iPhone ever again!" It is all BS!!! I refused and spent 24 hours online and finally unbricked it myself.
All I want is to use my OWN phone and I am sick of feeling like I am a thief or something.

I don't know how the Order Status page on Apple's site works in other countries, but in the US if the item ships separately, there's a separate tracking number with each item, otherwise it will say "preparing for shipping or "not yet shipped".
I would think calling Apple would probably provide more answers than calling the shipping company.

I wonder if we will hit that point first or if cloning technology will make the point moot by growing fully functioning attachable limbs first.
That image probably represents a single function, perhaps something involving the carpal tunnel.
The hand and wrist are massively more complex than that fictional representation.
IMO.

The Airs look really tempting (once Lion comes out, not much point at the moment for me).
However I see comments about it not being great for the 'heavy lifting' jobs. I don't do much processor intensive stuff, but on my '08 MacBook, iPhoto sometimes takes a while and exporting an hours movie from iMovie it can slug quite a bit.
How do the Airs cope with these kind of tasks?

Hi. I'm a freelance designer...I guess I'm still just starting out. The holidays always make me think about trying my hand at designing prints for wrapping paper and gift bags. Most wrapping paper designs seem like something a competent designer could do with relative ease in Adobe illustrator...simple yet fun 2D vector designs of snowmen, snowflakes etc. I was wondering if anyone out there has tried this and if it's possible to successfully shop your designs around to manufacturers? Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Phil

Of course, with some of the functions, a lot of less saavy users would definitely need to read that instruction manual, or be initiated by some other user. That's be no different than the current iPod.

That's good advice, I've been doing it with sites I make for a year or so now. I also add a <no script> where I put the email address (without a link) and @ replaced with [AT]. Just in case any random people happen by that don't have javascript enabled.

check if they require verification for you to change your email address. If not, it's probably fake.
It doesn't verify....interesting. Oh well, it was an interesting thought for a little while.

Hey guys,
I need alot of help. I convinced my sister to get an iBook a few months ago. I told her that mac is way easier than PC. Now it appears that her computer is freaking out. She is calling me for tech support and I don't know how to help her. She is having very strange problems. So I will have a series of threads to help me with these problems, I would greatly appreciate any input.
First problem: She was having trouble with video (I will get into this later) and I told her to repair permissions, prebind, etc. To do this I had her get Cocktail, I figured it would be the easiest way.
Now, after she ran it, she cannot open Microsoft Office or iPhoto. Office is the most pressing problem because she is a student. When she opens it she gets an error message telling her she has corrupt fonts (see attached pic). She then has to force quit, nothing will work. I would suggest a reinstall but she left the CD at home (the parents are mailing it up, so this will be an option later). I have ran out of ideas, but hate to leave my sister stranded! ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO FIX THIS?? Thank you all so much.
