This was expected.
Well when you're at the bottom, the only logical places you can go are up or out of business.
Apple is hardly on the verge of bankruptcy, so up is the logical path.
Apple could capture more market share if they loosened the purse strings a bit and dropped some prices.
Nothing crazy, but made them more affordable for the average Joe out there. They have the margins to do it, but still keep prices on the high side.
My daughter needs to use a Mac for school work, but I simply cannot justify the $1k plus expense for a bottom of the line Mac Book.
My 2008 Dell 1525 (Cost $400 new) short of the EFI/BIOS difference, is spec'd identically (same CPU, GPU) to the 2008 13" Mac Book Pro and runs 10.6.6 and just fine.

A couple years ago, 4G meant LTE. Now it means HSPA+. I have no doubt that the next iPhone will be 4G capable, but it won't be LTE. I doubt that delaying the typical launch would have anything to do with including 4G.
Ummm.... I was of the impression that in a couple of markets People tried to promote HSPA+ as 4G and got smacked. Pretty much 4G must be a true 4G tech like LTE to use the name.
Hey I can see 4G/LTE as something Apple will want to get on early. I mean it's a big fat pipe technology. So no more one pipe for digital voice one for digital data.

No, Apple is a hardware company that develops the OS that runs on its hardware.
Exactly. The software is one of the features of the hardware. Google Android, Microsoft Windows, etc, is what you get with a software company

Here's a quote for you
t the viewer is essentially dead. I'll be very interested to see how actual editing works on this thing -- none of this addresses the process of selecting a clip, setting ins and outs, and getting it onto the timeline. All of this is about stuff that's already on the timeline, and that's where Apple seems to be suggesting you do the majority of your editing.
That doesn't seem very... precise. I love Final Cut, but 'precision editing' (aka Trim Mode in Avid) doesn't replace knowing what you're picking before you place it into your cut.
Avid,FCP7,Premiere,Vegas all have a viewer.
Now I know some people that don't use the viewer all that much and I know others that swear by it.
I myself have been using it less and less over time

Thats no true.
Apple just a few days ago released Mac OS X 10.6.7 and was only 475MB, and the Combo update was only 1.12GB. Mac OS X 10.6.6 brought the Mac App Store and was only 143MB.
I don't know why your updates are 4GB.

I wonder if this is a specific to X86 hardware... Does this effect ppc based hardware?
These options have always been there, but I'm not sure they're sufficient to divert this type of exploit (assuming it exists/works, since people are arguing fervently that it's a hoax). The way I understand it, a WiFi device looking to join a network is doing active sensing even when it will only join preferred networks -- this pretty much must be true, since it can join a preferred hidden network, which is not itself broadcasting its availability. So the problem comes when a malevolent entity responds to the ping that the WiFi card puts out. I'm not sure just telling your computer to not join open networks would make any difference at that level. For instance, in analogy, with the BT exploit, one was not required to pair with the device propagating the virus -- just be discoverable.

Are you seriously comparing Bach to the Beatles?
There are hundreds of doctoral dissertations about Bach and his music. There are people studying his typography....etc. For example, there is a study about the color of the ink he used at the beginning of his Leipzig period. They found a relationship of patterns of writing and the color of the ink according to his age. That's is one of the thousands ways they have tried to find out the date of a single piece. There a lot people who devote their lives to perform or/and study his music.
Have they done that for the Beatles?
I am going to take you as my example form now on. I am going to tell my friends there is someone who compares Bach to the Beatles.
There are plenty of people who study The Beatles work. Their work was even studied as it was written. So much so Lennon wrote songs to confuse them. I mean, there are even college courses on Radiohead's music. I feel there are a lot a music snobs in this thread.

Right. When you eat off of your gear you're always going to find ways to not spend SO MUCH on said gear so you can put more food in your mouth. Which is why I really don't have an issue claiming student-ship if I am able to. I personally don't do it with certain software titles, but I will do it with Apple hardware and others. AVID Media Composer is $2500 regular price give or take a few $100s. The EDU version is $295 . . . . . okay I am going to hop on that EDU bandwagon right now.
I agree, and am fortunate to have a legit edu connection. That said, companies vary on their proof requirements. Apple, in my experience, will give you the edu price by just saying you are a student/teacher/buying it for one. I've seen them sell a Mac at that price to grandparents, etc. Pretty decent policy. MS just requires a .edu email, but then again technet is so cheap that the edu discount pales. of course, with technet using the software in a production environment is a license violation.
Just as the lenses you acquire in still/video photography will cost more than your body, software will be the major cost in building any rig.
Oh ya. I have several pieces of glass that individually cost more than the body. People complain about software lock in; MS / APPLE ?Adobe et. al. have nothing on the camera manufacturers and their proprietary mounts.
Read the comment thoroughly. ANYONE can learn the apps, any goofball like you stated yourself in the bold. I didn't put any time restraint on this goofball. But I did mention that it take far more to be a good designer.

In Brazil any import has about 80% in taxes. That is the way to industrialize the country and make people and companies build the products "in house".
Building the iPad there would be a very good move since for the huge population and cheap professional labor.
I'm curious if that is the reason for the Brazil plant. Brazil is famous for having insane prices on foreign technology. This could bring down prices for Brazilian customers. Maybe it'll only be making iPads for brazilians and whatever neighbor countries have good import/export deals with Brazil.

uh...urm...NO.
The iPhone is released in a few select countries...FOUR to be exact. We are here talking about a computer that is supposed to be released in WAY more than 4 countries. sheesh, Do you guys seriously think that is a good idea?

Nice update for those who want an iMac. Decent bump for the Mac mini too..
I'm sure the MBP will be updated soon and possibly the MB..
Like many others, I'm waiting for something more powerful and expandable than a Mac mini, but not as expensive as a Mac Pro and does not have an integrated LCD like an iMac (I have a 24" Dell already).
Something like:
1.83 Ghz Core Duo 2 (Conroe)
512 gig Ram (4 memory slots)
160Gig 3.5" SATA Drive (and one additonal empty bay)
Dual Layer Superdrive
PCIe Video Card (ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300GT)
1 additional PCI slot
Bluetooth/Airport
in something like a mini-tower case (about 2/3 size of Mac Pro)
Starting about what the iMac starts at ($1199)... With a more loaded one
2.16Ghz, 1Gig Ram, 250Gig HD, better video (say 7600GT) going up to $1599 or so...
Crossing my fingers for the 12th!

The security-through-obscurity myth of OS X has long been debunked. Do you know what the most used computer OS in the world is? Linux. And there are very, very few viruses for linux.
The rampant virus ecosystem is a flaw in Windows, not an inherent fact of all operating systems.
Macs have a decent market share and a very large mindshare, but yet are still virus free (though there have been a couple trojans that fizzled out).
+1
From reading these and other forums for years we know how many Mac/Apple haters there are out there. Don't you think if they could create viruses etc. for Macs to make them look bad they would!!!???

755.53 is a GREAT PRICE!!!!
Aaah my ibook G4 12" 800Mhz dies last week (HD failure) and my Powerbook G4 12" 1.33 has only 256MB ram and runs slooowly.
I've got the money know to buy one but originally I have been saving up for a Mac Pro after MWSF '07.
What do to - what to do???
yeah, I just purchased that one with burgundy bag :)
Was going to get the black as it would have been similar priced when you upgrade the white version to 120gb. But 100+ for an extra 40gb isn't worth it

Wow, not getting updates to your OS for half a decade is now an advantage is it?
And Windows users accuse Mac owners of being delusional!
There are updates, just free. Also, it's nice to be able to have to fiddle with the OS only once every half a decade. Updates don't matter that much, since if you're a mac user and using windows for gaming(and not job work), the windows interface doesn't matter at all. You'd be getting Vista in anticipation of a future laptop with a DX10 graphics card.
