because having a ton of twitter followers is completely relevant to this discussion. That has to be one of the stupidest comments today.

I think it is relevant to this discussion. My point is that Joe is using the "fame" that the iPhone app brought him to bash the company that makes it. I think he makes a point and obviously is sticking to his morals by leaving. I applaud him for that, but by throwing mud at Apple he's looking like a kid who's taking his ball and going home. I don't even use Twitter, but can imagine that to someone who is mouthing off for attention the way Joe is, it probably is somewhat important to him. Before someone accuses me of being a fanboy, let me just say that I prefer my PC to a mac. I'm just lending my honest opinion. Who knows, maybe by him leaving the project the facebook app will be improved. If that is the case, thanks Joe.

I predict Macbooks will, after tomorrow, be known as Macbook Nanos, because they will be 0.5" thin and have the whole shebang. In fact the monitor will be upgraded to 13.5" too

In other news, the Dell recall will cost Sony up to $430m. If all batteries are going at the same rate, Apple & Dell could cost Sony $619m. Add in what Sony will lose on its own machines...I'm guessing close to $1b. That would wipe out almost an entire year of profits (estimated at 130b Yen or $1,116,119,303). They may be screwed.

Not to mention the 200 dollars they're going to be losing on each PS3 they sell....

God gave the law in the old testament to serve a specific purpose at a specific time to a specific people. From a theological stand point it's purpose was to show that no amount of work or good behavior can bring one to God. The law serves to highlight our separation from God in that none of us can measure up. The wages of sin are death and thus under the law death was the punishment. Under the new covenant Christ's death has paid the price of sin and we no longer need to live under the law.

Then why bother with the Old Testament? Seems to cause a lot of problems.

Just wondering, does the aluminum material prevent them from manufacturing white models? I prefer white over all the available colours, and it'll prolly go better with my MacBook.

I was wondering the same thing. A white aluminium one with a white clickwheel would look good, I think. The silver's almost there, but if it was just all white that would be great. It's going to be strange to have a white iBook, white leads, white mouse, and then an all-black iPod.

A rough and ready Photoshop job of a white one:

    57362

I think it would look very smart indeed.

My speculation is simple... Front row wasn't shown just because they're not ready to release the new cinema displays with built-in cameras yet. My guess is that the price-drop on the existing displays is to move them before the ones with integrated cameras are intro'd.

JephreyI believe Apple could address this in the (near) future in the following ways:

    1. New Cinema Displays with IR (and iSight), or

    2. Separate IR accessory (USB/IR and Apple Remote) that can be used with older Macs as well, or

    3. iSight 2.0 with built in IR sensor.

In my opinion 1. is unlikely because unlike iMacs and notebooks, Mac Pros are frequently used with multiple monitors. It doesn't make sense to build this function in every monitor. So we may see larger and better Cinema Displays but I don't expect to see iSight/IR built-in.

    2. is better but 3. is the best because it solves two problems with the same solution. The iSight is in need of better optics as well. I expect to see it later in the year especially as the accessory would also make a good Xmas stocking stuffer.

I recently read an article that outlined the orchestration of product release by Apple. In a nutshell, Apple does't want to release too many products in one setting because 1. each new release potentially overshadows the next 2. media buzz will die down in a couple weeks. Apple wants to keep their name in the news as much as possible so they make major announcements, in drips and drabs. Of course this may or may not apply to this new event, but i would speculate that they would not release a new iPod and a 23" iMac in the same event. Apple depends on maximum buzz with the release of the new iPods and I don't think they would take the shance that a new iMac would overshadow it completely. Thoughts?

I ordered a 30GB iPod and the standard white 1,83Ghz Macbook on September 2nd, and it said it was due to ship out on the 13th. I therefore thought that they'd upgrade the iPod (more likely than the MB) before sending it to me, but I just got an e-mail saying it shipped today.

Bit bummed that I didn't get the upgrade (well, I can only presume), but at the same time stoked to get my Macbook and iPod more than a week earlier than I first thought!

    Just FYI.

..hmm... as many of you know .mac has really been struggling in the past few months.

    Prediction:

Steve will announce an all new .mac service, with web based applications reserved solely for .mac members. Also a new feature will be the ability to store videos on your .mac which can be streamed to your iphone and AppleTV 2.

    j.

I like the sound of that. I'd love apple to do something progressive with .mac.

Well, don't put back your camera just yet. If I recall it correct, you never set any time limit when you made your bold statement about Conroe in iMac. My guess is that Conroe eventually will arrive in iMacs...and when it does... we do (sort of) look forward to your promised homemovie. :D

    Technicalities. :D

I did blow it with saying that Wodcrests would not go into MP's, though. :(

One of the most practical/feasible forms may be to just have 2 screens...an iPod as one screen AND a Tablet screen (i.e. eInk, LCD, etc.). In this way, regular iPod users can CHOOSE to just carry around JUST their iPod for music/video, or take along an ADDITIONAL tablet screen if they desire to watch a movie on the larger screen or read documents (e-books) or email or other apps (albeit with a shorter battery life).

Need to still have a "cool" form factor, such that the iPod nests into the tablet screen seamlessly and not some stupid corded device.

This idea would give the consumer both expandability and more incentive to buy an iPod. What most consumers DON'T want is to buy more and more devices that don't "leverage" each other. MOST consumers don't have an unlimited amount of disposable income to buy a shuffle, a nano, an iPodV, a Mac Tablet, an iPhone, etc.

    Your thoughts?

Lets hope they remaster them - the stereo effects on the original versions can be really painful on a pair of headphones.

    +1

The quality of The Beatles CD releases are, for the most part, poor. Of course, they date from 1987, and digital tech has improved greatly since then.

The music itself could also do with a remix. Mixing drums entirely in one stereo channel is difficult to take in headphones!

I was talking about the new ones aswell  the refurb shop also sells stock they want to get rid of and that includes old macbooks.

How do you know that you are going to get a new one and not a refurbished one. And what old macbooks are you talking about, they didnt release any new ones yet. Thanks for the help.

Once we see a 128-gig iPod Touch, that gap will be eliminated (and this may well be the only reason why Apple still sells the Classic).

128GB is too small and will cost too much. :(
