There is a larger issue in Hewitt's statement, which seems to totally go over some people's heads.
And to the "Facebook sucks" crowd: may be so, but there are a lot more Facebook users, than iPhone users. So it's still important.
And really, over the last few years, my otherwise beloved Apple has turned into the George W. Bush of PC companies. Look at their newly found moral stance, regarding applications. Or their strong-arm tactics. Or the picking of wars not likely to be in their own interest - like the ones with Google, and Adobe.
Or, the fact, that the truly religious (and uninformed), blindly follow, no matter where.

I just installed ClickToFlash (http://rentzsch.github.com/clicktoflash/) on all my Macs and my browsing experience has dramatically increased 1000% for the better. No more intrusive pop-up ads, distracting animations, and more importantly, long-loading, resource-intensive, useless, gimmicky intros and gadgets... unless I specifically ask for it.
I can only imagine what would happen if Flash apps on the iPhone didn't have such an ability to be optionally downloaded, let alone execute upon it loading. It's bad enough that AT&T's bandwidth is horrendous at times, I don't need to waste half a megabyte just downloading an advertisement.

Well it sounds like Apple wants to release all of their iOS devices (the iPad, iPod and iPhone) at the same time, a month or two before christmas, and a month or two after their new iOS release.
That way, they can make everything uniform.
A new iOS is shown every summer. Then a few months later, once developers are used to use, and all the bugs are fixed, a round of iOS devices built around the new OS debut, and people buy them up like crazy for the next several weeks to give as Christmas gifts.
That doesn't make sense from a revenue angle for them. By lumping all their releases in a narrower window, they don't get the more consistent spread out over the year press coverage, media buzz, and most importantly, buying. If all iOS devices came out so close together, people would have to prioritize which one to get as they typically won't spend the money on multiple devices in such a short timeframe. By keeping them spread out, someone can justify buying an iPad in the spring, an iPhone in mid to late summer and an iPod at the holidays, etc. And others will opt to get their devices in different combinations and sequences. Having a new iPad released this March didn't hurt Apple's iPad sales last Christmas, nor will it do so this Christmas, so releasing a new one in the fall won't help them. Steve even said that 2011 will be the year of the iPad 2. Not the iPad 2 and 3. There are already supply issues with panels and Apple is paying a premium to secure larger supplies of panels to keep iPad 2 production up. That points to an iPad retina display being a spring 2012 upgrade.

My guess is that Apple is transitioning away from making "computers" in the legacy sense of the word.

Not sure if anyone noticed yet, but there are a ton of new visualizer effects i've never seen before, and the visualizer runs at native res when in fullscreen.

Charging decisions are made by people, including police and prosecutors. A discussion about the likelihood of committing a crime is only about claims about racial differences. I'm not aware of any legitimate study that any race is more or less likely to commit crimes.

Back in the final days of Logic Pro 7 I was considering buying it. It was incredibly powerful but really deep and with a clunky GUI to boot. My procrastination paid off.
Within months Logic Pro 8 came out and they simplified the GUI to be like GarageBand (and oh how all the "Pros" did moan...but only for awhile) and cut the price from $999 to $499. I jumped on it and never looked back.
And now the same sort of thing is happening to FCP. All the power (fingers crossed) but with a much better GUI (yes, sort of like iMovie but only on the surface....just like with Logic Pro and Garageband).
Jumping into this will be a no-brainer for me whereas with the old FCP I would have never "bit".
Give the "Pros" time to come around. A lot of the resistance evaporates over time. Yes, there are actually some people who like difficult programs because then they join the "priesthood" of "those in the know" and get all puffed up.

No. Please god no. I don't know how many of you have done e-books but e-books on anything smaller then a 4" screen sucks. HARD.
What Apple needs to do is come out with a dedicated device. Integration seems the only way they can push into another market at this point. (Shades of MS Windows with [insert anything here.] integration.)
What Apple needs to do is form an alliance with E-Reader / Peanut Press and having it integrate with iTMS. Then come out with an e book reader that uses digital ink. This is the tech that can paint a screen then cut power to the screen yet still have the image remain. In cases such as this we are talking WEEKS of battery life. Use digital ink + Apple's standard design flare + iTMS and I can guarantee people will eat it up.

It's used everywhere from text books in schools, to training manuals, to maintenance manuals, to entertainment in the home, to entertainment while you are sitting waiting for the dentist. Just a heads up, Best Buy got into a bit of trouble for holding inventory and were told by apple to sell ipads if were in stock. Good luck finding any tomorrow....
Almost all stores didn't listen to that email that was sent out. They continued to sell only reserved items. I have heard that most of the Apple employees from within the stores liked it better that way. They get asked 4x the questions about an iPad as they do compared to a notebook or iMac. They get "graded" by their selling numbers. Time = Money. If you can spend half the time for something starting at 2x more money, which would you choose?

What are you a sloth? It sounds like you rarely use your Mac. Updates are pretty far in-between to be that lazy:confused:
It's ridiculous that iOS hasn't already had this enabled - having to crawl back to my Mac to update my phone or iPad is just a total pain....

How do you know that you are going to get a new one and not a refurbished one. And what old macbooks are you talking about, they didnt release any new ones yet. Thanks for the help.There is ZERO DIFFERENCE between a new Mac and a refurbished Mac - ZERO. You have nothing to fear buying a refurb any more than you have to fear buying a new one. Same warranty. Same quality. Different box. And sometimes when you buy a refurb, you get more than stock like two 1GB sticks of RAM and/or a bigger than stock HD for example.

I think he makes a point and obviously is sticking to his morals by leaving. I applaud him for that, but by throwing mud at Apple he's looking like a kid who's taking his ball and going home. I don't even use Twitter, but can imagine that to someone who is mouthing off for attention the way Joe is, it probably is somewhat important to him. Before someone accuses me of being a fanboy, let me just say that I prefer my PC to a mac. I'm just lending my honest opinion. Who knows, maybe by him leaving the project the facebook app will be improved. If that is the case, thanks Joe.

Why drain battery by syncing when you can charge batter while syncing and with wireless sync that can be done by induction charging which is slow and charger is costly ergo makes little sense. I'm all for wireless sync in addition to current wired method though. One more option is good.

If you did not finish the the game on LEGENDARY, they withheld part of the story and misled you!! Bastardos! ;)

The other company's comparable machines to the MacBook Pro have C2D processors. The ones that compete against the MacBook don't for the most part. Apple didn't drop the ball.

The capital region got a bit of ice last night. It was heavy enough to take down a tree about a mile from my house, and of course the power went out. So we came to a hotel for the night. This was taken about 100 yards down the road from the hotel.

I've always been a huge fan of clean desktop setups, not much of a laptop or all-in-one guy, as I like ease of upgrading and replacing things, and while the Mac Mini was far from that, its a good medium, as its cheap(er) compared to the rest of the mac lineup, and is cheap enough that in 2-3 years I don't mind dropping the cash on another one. Also like doing some semi-pro/hobby image editing, so the 20" Cinema Display is great for me.
