I just saw one at the apple store today... The nano's are still too small lol. Here's a toast to the mini, apple's best non-full size iPod ever.

I like your style Nipsy and your points are well taken. I think that a lot of people are just venting.

Personally, I would find it extremely hard to believe that Apple wants to live and die by a Photoshop metric. On the other hand, Intel and AMD don't seem to be making bank on every speed increase either, which tells me that PC's are price constrained commodities for the most part.

Apple, on the other hand, is quite aware of the dollars that can be generated with a quick and substantial speed bump in January, especially as most of the bleeding edge types that have stuck their noses up at the 7455 machines.

I have a dual 500 with a hardware raid (ata66), and I can get a good speed bump by jumping to a 133 raid and 7200 RPM drives, should I need to stretch this a bit more. Then, of course, there are dual 800 and 1G upgrades, though I would need to see quite a price decrease to be interested in these.

Is it worth it to incrementally bump the machine? Probably not.

I bought my first, a 128, in Feb 84. There wasn't, for all practical purposes, any software other than MacWrite and MacPaint. Then we went through both the Sculley and Amelio eras.

Apple has had its up's and down's. Apple's definitely on an up swing now with the release of Jaguar.

I advocate patience regarding hardware. Apple knows quite well that we want to splend our money. 3 more months, I would think.

HAHAHA, i'm guessing Gates never had his way with the ladies ;)

I have the sneaking suspicion Gates didn't have much trouble with the ladies... considering while most people were offering drinks, he was offering weekend trysts to remote islands off the cost of Fiji.

Or better yet, he could just offer the entire island.

    Well, which is it?

There aren't enough Macs and Mac users out there to count as anything, or they're all smug and worthy of a slap in the face?

People can't have it both ways. Actually, I would say it's the easiest thing in the world to have it both ways in this case, because the scenarios you describe aren't mutually exclusive. Remember, the hacker world is not monolithic. While the majority of hackers may consider mac users a waste of time, it only takes one with some time on her hands and a beef against (smug) Mac zealots to write a virus for OS X, and that's that. I can tell you as someone who works with hackers (half of my buddies are at BlackHat this week) that OS X is NOT inherently secure, and that there are plenty of vulnerabilities that surface on it that are well-known in the "hacker" community long before they are made "public," and also long before they are also repaired by Apple.

OS X is definitely inherently more secure than Windows, but the near-complete lack of viruses/use of other exploits for them is definitely not because they are ironclad in terms of security. That should be abundantly clear from a cursitory reading of the kbase article on the latest security update. Many of those fixes were to rootkit holes! As in, god-sized sized security holes...

I'm not trying to rant or anything, but I've definitely realized in the last few months of my internship that OS X is not nearly as secure as I'd previously assumed, and also that there are a growing number of hackers that are pissed off--or at least find it amusingly laughable-- that Apple and followers are so brazenly smug about security. I hate Symantec just as much as the rest of you for their shameless plugs of their USELESS mac software, but that doesn't mean that OS X is anywhere near impenetrable, especially if you use simple word passwords--and you bet your butt the average mac user does this, if he even sets a password at all.

Funny how they claim it's supposed to be nowhere near final software, yet it's releasing in a month and a half. I would think this is on bug ironing stage right?

To set the record straight, read that paragraph from Larry Jordan very carefully:

"While the slide show was identical to the February meeting, the demo was not. Randy Ubillos, who did the demo, added more features and additional explanations on effects (see the screen shot above). However, I was told later that the build that was demoed was the same build that was shown in February - and that the application has moved significantly forward since that time.

In other words, what we saw tonight was nowhere near the final form of the application."

So, assume that this build is from February 23rd, the exact date MacRumors reported this invitation-only showing of FCP X. Also assume that FCP X is released on June 1st (which seems overly optimistic to me). That's still roughly a three month period between beta and final release, with a distribution model whereby Apple is capable of making tweaks as late as... well... June 1st. In addition, I would imagine the February showing was earlier than the 23rd, and the release date will be later than the 1st. Oh... there's also the fact that since this is a ground-up reinterpretation of FCP, this has probably been worked on for quite some time.

Also, the way I read this it seems like they're using a version from February at these demos. (Which makes sense that they wouldn't show off the absolute current version. Someone's probably been working on this presentation for awhile.) So what they showed really could be a version that has literally 4 or 5 more months of work going into it.

Don't forget that the feb version was probably an even earlier version to make sure that it all works seamlessly so we could be looking at a version that is early 2011 at the latest.

From all the tidbits of information flowing in I am getting very excited about this update and have already seen many hours that would have been saved if I had had the new version on previous projects I've done this year! It just keeps on getting better!

This mythical creature is Rangda. Rangda is the demon queen of the leyaks in Bali, according to traditional Balinese mythology. The leyak is a mythological figure in the form of flying head with entrails (heart, lung, liver, etc.) still attached. It is said to fly trying to find a pregnant woman in order to suck her baby's blood or a newborn child. Don't they sound friendly?

The wait is killing me and my MacBook. My poor machine is dying slowly and painfully. The palmrest has chipped again, the processor is burned out, the fans are loudly overturning to try and keep the processor from overheating only to fail when the processor gets to 87 and the computer shuts itself down to save itself from burning up. The battery "needs servicing". It's a mess. I have waited patiently for a new machine, and will wait patiently for a little while more, but I really hope they come soon.

I am waiting for the 13" Pro's. But if the 15" is enticing enough I might go for it instead. At this point I don't even care what updates we get. As long as it's something.

Also, who needs USB3 right now? I haven't even seen any peripherals that use it that I would buy. And I'm not ready to pay a premium for them right now either. I'm fine with USB2 for a while longer.

I have $1100 coming to me from the government. I want to give it to you, Apple. Just release them new machines!

So does this mean that your battery is not part of the exchange program? Or is it part of the exchange program because you changed your serial number?

Friends, I am not too sure right now, but I think I have just discovered a smart person or a dishonest person?

After doing this i am now wondering myself if i am smart or dishonest, i personaly have no doubt that my batterys serial number is valid for recall....it's apples site that is in need of attention....

    IMHO.

I was really hoping for an iPhone this summer, but my contract w/ another company runs until 11/30/11 anyway. It's going to be a pain dealing w/ this HTC Hero for the rest of the year, but if the iPhone 5 comes with LTE to be "future-proofed", so to speak, I'll be pretty happy to wait. Having to wait until 2012, though, will be painful. Hopefully it's a fall release to rev up for the holidays.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. Humans are social creatures, we evolved being social to help us survive against great odds.

    ...

I'll see if I can find it, but I wouldn't boast about having Asperger's, it's better to boast about being an NT (Myers-Briggs personality type)

I was joking. I don't think we need a society of of Dr. House walking around.

I doubt it. While multitouch is practical for handheld devices, it isn't for desktop computers. The idea just isn't ergonomically sound, and doesn't seem like the kind of thing Apple would do. iOS is pretty good for what it isa simple, stripped-down interface that allows people to interact with handheld devices. It's not a replacement for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux distributions, or other desktop operating systems, and it would be foolhardy for Apple to conflate the two.

I know that I personally would be pretty annoyed if Apple decided to make all its operating systems identical to iOSI think there's a time and a place for multitouch, and a time and a place for desktop operating systems. God forbid iOS and Mac OS X merge.

Blow through your data cap with 650MB downloads for every point update? Not happening until Apple can deliver smaller downloads for updates.

If I have to wait for the carriers to approve this functionality because of bandwidth concerns, then it better not count against my usage.

Quake (1996)= Marathon (1994) rip off. The inaccuracy of your statement is that Bungie made both Marathon and Halo (2001). :p

Ok, what I want to know, is the Master Chief around? I never understood the ending of Halo 3. But I figured it out after reading this Halo3 Wikipedia link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_3). If you did not finish the the game on LEGENDARY, they withheld part of the story and misled you!! Bastardos! ;)

My preorder of Halo Reach is enroute.
